Code of Conduct

The GEMS Group of Companies is committed to operate professionally and ethically across all its business ventures.

All operations conducted by the company are assessed in terms of profitability, ethics, professionalism, legislation and the environment. Due to the nature of work undertaken by GEMS, there is continual need for ethical and environmental awareness. As such GEMS requires all projects, staff and equipment meet internationally accepted legislation and professional standards.

The Group promotes and plans the development of its business in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner.

GEMS recognises that business practice and business ethics may be in conflict on occasion. In such situations the Group will take guidance set down by governments and regulatory bodies. The Group maintains a constant monitoring of every aspect of each project, recognising its responsibility to operate to professional standards at all times.

GEMS Group is aware of its place in society and of its goals for advancement. It is also aware of the impact that business activity can have on the environment and global society. Because of the Group's diverse mixture of experts there is plenty of advice on hand to aid in minimising any negative impacts. This is a matter that the Group takes very seriously: to this end a remit of total compliance has been given to the Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment (QHSE) division.

Developments in real-time monitoring technologies allow for environmental baseline studies and work monitoring to take place. Determining ambient conditions at a site before work begins allow for continued monitoring of any impact that ongoing work may have, and provides a framework for complete environmental understanding. GEMS considers that each company should take responsibility for its own impact. Accordingly, the Group expects all its workers, suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders to behave responsibly and ethically.

Society

It is society that gives GEMS the remit to conduct its operations. In recognition of this the company will behave with an equal measure of compassion in respecting human rights, international legislation (including trading embargoes), and the principles of fair competition.

Environment

Many operations conducted by GEMS are completed in ecologically sensitive areas. The company is aware of its potential impact on local and global environments, and takes responsibility for its own actions. As such, the company complies with international standards and legislation, striving for the prevention or limitation of all negative impacts (including waste material). The Group's permanent QHSE department sets out guidance for all operations and audits projects on a regular basis to ensure compliance with the strictest international standards.

Personnel

The company acknowledges its duty to support and train its staff. Group management takes responsibility for making staff aware of its business principles, ethical values and safety. GEMS encourages its employees to be professionally involved in the activities of the Group, and invites constructive criticism and the prevention of conflicts of conscience.

Clients

The GEMS Group takes seriously its commitment to provide customers with competitively priced services while meeting customer expectations of a consistently high quality of service. The Group will conduct all its operations according to agreed standards; meeting deadlines, pricing evaluations and showing respect for clients’ own principles. All contracts are given full support from start to finish, allowing work to be completed competently and efficiently.

Accountability

All work conducted by the group has the potential to impact on local and wider environments, ecology and society. To minimise this impact as much as possible all GEMS personnel adhere to a strict ethical code of business principles and observe applicable laws and regulations. In recognition of this, the group is accountable for all its actions during the course of a project to clients, personnel, suppliers, subcontractors, stakeholders, communities and the environment.
