HISTORY
GEMS was founded in 2004 after the acquisition of a well established but small hydrographic survey company in Belgium. The existing personnel were experts in hydrographic-surveys and dredging support. The company was renamed GEMS International NV to reflect a new strategy of building a worldwide integrated geotechnical, geophysical and metocean service organisation.
Also in 2004, the first steps of expansion of the group were taken when GEMS International added a UK subsidiary, GEMS (UK) Ltd. GEMS (UK) specialises in offshore geotechnical site investigations and foundation engineering. Its field of expertise is complimentary to that of GEMS International.
Another step taken in 2004 was the formation of a second UK based subsidiary, GEMS Survey Ltd. This company was formed accelerate the group's growth in the worldwide market for geophysical and metocean surveys. GEMS has since become a major player in the international survey industry.
Each GEMS office is manned with specialist personnel, committed to providing the high quality services to its customers. GEMS has a broad and expanding set of skills which underpin the group’s ability to provide innovative solutions for complex site investigations.
Between 2004 and 2007 the GEMS International group of companies established regional offices in Nigeria, Egypt, Qatar and the UAE to provide increased support to customers operating in West Africa and the Middle East.
From the outset in 2004 the GEMS management team has deliberately embedded professional quality assurance, health, safety and environmental processes into the culture of the growing organization. The group operates to international QHSE standards and completed a program of certification in 2008.
The group has successfully executed projects from the Americas, throughout Africa, Europe, Middle East to India and now provides an integrated service offering of geotechnical, geosciences and metocean services to a wide range of customers worldwide.
